Unleash the Secrets of the Past: Hunan Paleontology Forum Goes Live on National Science Popularization Day
Hunan Paleontology Forum: Exploring the Mysteries of Prehistoric Earth
With the National Science Popularization Day approaching, the “Hunan Paleontology Forum” was held online and offline simultaneously, leading everyone to learn to listen to the voice of nature and perceive the diversity of biodiversity.
Unveiling the Secrets of Paleontology
As mysterious inhabitants of the Earth over the long ages, paleontology not only bears the magnificent history of life evolution over billions of years, but is also a brilliant treasure in the field of natural science exploration. In-depth research on their life course can not only promote a deep understanding of the laws of nature, but also provide solid scientific support for the construction of ecological civilization and the implementation of sustainable development strategies.
The Ninth Hunan Paleontology Forum
In the ninth Hunan Paleontology Forum, Professor Ou Qiang from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) gave a wonderful report entitled “Cambrian Seafloor Walkers – A Talk on the Evolution of Leaf-footed Animals”, which led everyone to deeply interpret the mystery of leaf-footed animals. Zhong Qi, deputy director of the Hunan Geological Museum, hosted the event, which attracted nearly 100 audiences to listen to the report, including teachers and students from major universities and schools in the museum-school alliance in Changsha, enthusiastic volunteers from the museum, and audience friends from Yinguiyuan Community, Guihuaping Street, and those who made reservations through the Geological Museum WeChat public account.
Exploring the Evolution of Lobe-footed Animals
Lobe-footed animals once flourished in the earliest oceans, but now they are nowhere to be found in the vast ocean. In recent years, a large number of lobe-footed animal fossils have been discovered in Cambrian fossil deposits such as Chengjiang in Yunnan, my country. In this report, Professor Ou Qiang started from the concept of “lobe-footed animals” and used lobe-footed animal fossils as an example to reveal the origin and evolution of this ancient biological group.
Interactive Session and Live Broadcast
During the report, the audience responded enthusiastically, and the interactive session pushed the atmosphere to a climax. The audience actively asked questions around topics such as “Differences between lobopods and arthropods”, “Respiratory mechanism of lobopods”, and “Reproduction strategy of lobopods in the ocean”, and Professor Ou Qiang patiently answered them one by one, showing his profound professional knowledge and rigorous academic attitude. The event was presented in the form of offline + online live broadcast, and nearly 600,000 viewers watched the live broadcast.
Future Plans
The Hunan Geological Museum will continue to do a good job in the publicity and protection of geological relics and paleontological fossils, regularly organize well-known and authoritative paleontological experts and scholars in China to hold academic and popular science lectures for the public, and create a “Paleontology Forum” with a broader social influence, so that more paleontological researchers, college students, and enthusiasts inside and outside the industry can understand the latest cutting-edge achievements and academic trends in the field of paleontology, stimulate the public’s interest and enthusiasm for scientific exploration, further promote the scientific spirit of pursuing truth and climbing to the top in the whole society, and contribute to the development of my country’s scientific research.
