Urgent Call to Action: Padawan Municipal Council Must Address Stray Dog Issue in Lane A, Batu Kawa

Kuching, 4th – The Padawan Municipal Council is facing mounting pressure to take immediate action against the growing stray dog population in Lane A, Batu Kawa, amidst concerns over the spread of rabies.

Kuching Youth chief Lan Likang recently visited the site and spoke with residents, who expressed their fears about the stray dogs roaming the area. Many of these dogs do not have dog tags, leading residents to worry about the risk of rabies transmission.

According to Lan Likang, the stray dogs in the area appear to be aggressive, chasing motorcycles and pedestrians, and barking wildly. This behavior has caused concern among residents, who are hesitant to let their children play in parks or go for walks in the area.

Residents have reported their concerns to the Padawan Municipal Council through the official WhatsApp number, but have only received a “NOTED” reply with no further action or updates. This lack of response has led to frustration among residents, who feel that their livelihood issues are not being taken seriously.

Lan Likang emphasized the need for the Padawan Municipal Council to take a humane approach to addressing the stray dog issue. He urged the council to work with the Veterinary Bureau to arrest, test, and return rabies-negative dogs to their owners or make them available for adoption. Irresponsible dog owners should also be held accountable to prevent the need for large-scale culling.

The Padawan Municipal Council must take immediate action to address the concerns of residents in Lane A, Batu Kawa. This includes conducting testing and arrest operations to curb the spread of rabies and ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
