The Busan Metropolitan City Western Office of Education has announced that it will be hosting the ‘Western Boys Sports Competition and New Player Discovery Competition’ for 435 students from 66 elementary and middle schools in the district until next month.
The Western Boys Sports Competition is open to registered players, while the New Player Discovery Competition is open to non-registered players. The main objective of these competitions is to discover outstanding athletes in vulnerable sports in the Western District Office of Education and promote academic development.
The Western District Office of Education will be operating competitions in 16 sports, including basketball, rugby, and table tennis. Matches will be held on weekends at the schools in charge of each sport, taking into account conditions such as the number of participating teams.
Notably, Taekwondo and basketball events will be open to athletes from other education support offices. The top three teams or students and instructors in each event will receive the Superintendent’s Award, and preferential treatment will be given in sports merit awards to encourage the development of school sports teams.
Lee Jae-han, superintendent of the Western District Office of Education, stated, “This competition aims to improve the performance of student athletes. We hope this competition will serve as a catalyst to revitalize the school sports department ahead of the National Sports Festival to be held in Busan next year.”
