Unleashing the Beast: Lexus LBX Long-Term Test – Does its e-CVT Live Up to the Hype
Lexus LBX Review: A Comprehensive Analysis
Total Distance Traveled: 4688km – Driver Assistance System Evaluation
The Lexus LBX boasts an array of driver assistance systems, which have generally performed well and impressed me during my time with the vehicle.
However, I experienced a minor issue last week when the system incorrectly warned me to “correct my posture” despite my ideal driving position and focus on the road. This incident highlights that the system is not yet perfect and requires further refinement.
Total Distance Traveled: 5,390km - Spacious Luggage Compartment and Impressive e-CVT
During the long-term test, the Lexus LBX has primarily been used for short trips, such as commuting to work and shopping. Recently, I had the opportunity to assess the vehicle’s performance on a longer journey to Molly’s Motel & Diner in Oxfordshire, southern Great Britain.
I embarked on a two-day weekend trip, loading all my luggage, including my child’s, into the smallest SUV in Lexus history. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the luggage compartment was more spacious than expected, eliminating the need to fold down the rear seats.

Until now, I have mainly driven the Lexus LBX in urban areas with gentle traffic. However, even on the highway, the three-cylinder gasoline engine proved quiet, and the hybrid assist was effective. The e-CVT’s performance was also the best I have experienced in any Toyota or Lexus model I have test-driven.
Power Performance: Room for Improvement
While the start was smooth, there were several instances during the journey where I needed to accelerate strongly. Unfortunately, the powertrain’s behavior during these moments detracted from the overall impression of the LBX.
When I pressed the accelerator pedal and revved the engine above 3000 rpm, a rough noise echoed through the cabin. I believe this is not befitting of a premium Lexus brand.

It took longer than expected to reach the desired speed, and I had to press the accelerator pedal firmly. I think the engine could benefit from a bit more power.
As I approached my destination, the main road became congested, and the line of cars came to a standstill. The parking sensors began to ring, which was more annoying than usual in this situation.
After a longer-than-expected journey, I arrived at Molly’s Motel & Diner. The parking lot was well-maintained, and the compact size of the Lexus LBX made it easy to park in a new location. I appreciated the benefits of the vehicle’s compactness in this situation.
A young man with a Golf GTI showed interest in the Lexus LBX, sparking my curiosity about the potential for this model to make an impact in Europe.
