Unleashing the Power of Education: What Citizens Expect from the Next Generation – A Lesson from Samira Tawfiq’s Curriculum
Samira Tawfiq and Curriculum: What Do They Want from the Generation?
International Truth - The art curriculum for students has caused a huge controversy on Jordanian social networking sites due to its inclusion of the biography of popular artist Samira Tawfiq and the names of some of her songs with other Jordanian artists.
The curriculum also includes information from the biographies of artists Juliet Awad, Musa Hijazin, and Abdo Musa, in addition to Samira Tawfiq.
A Jordanian woman expressed her concerns on social media, stating, “Today, my daughter is looking at an art education book, and I find Samira Tawfiq and her life. HUKUM AND ITS MEANING… WHERE HAS THIS CLASS GONE?!.. SAMIRA TOWFIQ, HER LIFE, AND WHAT THEY WANT FROM THIS GENERATION?!! Do they want to go?”
She added, “We, the people, must object to the mockery that is happening because these people are responsible for us. Such books must be abolished. You are all shepherds and you are all responsible for your flock… I hope the problem is ignored. Won’t.”
A commentator on social media noted that Samira Tawfiq has become a role model for generations, from singing and dancing to educational curriculum, describing it as “an ugly time with all the details.”
