Jia Chenxi was born in September 1965 in Hongdong County, Shanxi Province. He is a doctor, associate researcher, master’s supervisor, and curator of the Bird Branch of the National Museum of Zoological Gardens.
Education and Work Experience:
1987, Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Xinjiang University;
1993, Master’s degree in Biology from Xinjiang University;
1996, PhD in Biology from Beijing Normal University;
1987-1990, Xinjiang Burgen Beaver Nature Reserve;
1996-Present, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences;
2005, Visiting scholar at Newcastle University, UK.
Field of Study:
Bird classification and systematic evolution; geographical variation in bird songs and morphology.
Social Positions:
Deputy Secretary-General of the Animal Ecology Committee of the Ecological Society of China and a member of the IUCN/SSC/WPA Pheasant Specialist Group.
Awards and Honors:
Winner of the 5th “Zheng Zuoxin Youth Bird Science Award” in 2003 and the second prize in the Natural Science Award of the Higher Education Science and Technology Award (ranked fifth) in 2006.
Scientific Research Projects:
Presided over three National Natural Science Foundation general projects, one national key research project, and one key sub-project of the foundation, and two horizontal projects.
