Vietnamese Language Honor Day 2024: Celebrating the Richness of the Vietnamese Language
The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (SOCAO) recently held a press conference to share information about the Vietnamese Language Honor Day 2024 and the Dear Vietnamese Language Gala.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Dong, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Overseas Vietnamese, highlighted that the activities and events honoring the Vietnamese language in 2024 have been diverse, rich in content, and widely organized both domestically and internationally.
The Launching Ceremony of the Vietnamese Language Honor Day, held abroad, has contributed significantly to promoting the event and encouraging participation from people worldwide. This year, the 2024 Vietnamese Language Ambassador Search Contest has seen an increase in participants, with 158 contestants from 14 countries and territories taking part. Notably, several foreign contestants who are passionate about the Vietnamese language have also joined the contest.
Additionally, the construction of Vietnamese Bookcases has gained attention. To date, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has collaborated with the Vietnam Education Publishing House to provide five bookcases and books to support the Vietnamese community in Austria, Laos, Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium, and Qatar.
Various ministries, branches, representative agencies, Vietnamese Cultural Centers, and overseas Vietnamese communities have proactively organized activities to honor the Vietnamese language. These initiatives include forums, seminars, and talks on teaching and learning methods, as well as integrating activities with foreign affairs and community events.
The consolidation of the apparatus of Vietnamese Associations has been proactive, with the establishment of specialized Vietnamese Language Committees, schools, and classes to teach and learn Vietnamese. This has created an environment for cultural and linguistic exchange.
On the evening of September 8, 2024, the Hanoi Opera House will host the Closing Ceremony of Vietnamese Language Honor Day 2024 and the Dear Vietnamese Language Gala Program, themed “Homeland Words, Loyal Words”. This program is a meaningful gift for overseas Vietnamese, expressing gratitude to individuals and organizations who have contributed to activities honoring the Vietnamese language.
The Gala is a comprehensive art program, featuring physical drama and music performances combined with direct and online interaction with overseas audiences. During the Closing Ceremony, five outstanding candidates will be honored with the title of Vietnamese Ambassadors Abroad in the Contest “Searching for Vietnamese Ambassadors Abroad in 2024”. Notably, among these five Vietnamese Ambassadors, there is an 8-year-old candidate and a foreign candidate who loves Vietnamese.
