We are recruiting participants for the 2025-2026 Global Exchange Student Program hosted by the U.S. Department of State. We hope for your interest and support from students. Please see below for detailed recruitment guidelines.

Ⅰ. global exchange student What is a program??

The Global Student Exchange Program, hosted by the U.S. Department of State, was initiated to enhance understanding of the United States by providing a diverse group of student leaders with extensive experience with American society, culture, and educational institutions.

Ⅱ. global exchange student program introduction

The 2025 – 2026 Global Exchange Student Program lasts for one semester and is a non-degree program. Selected students will leave the country in the fall semester of 2025 (August) or the spring semester of 2026 (January).

Exchange student program participants are registered as full-time students at an American university and live and take classes with American students on the campus. You must perform at least 10 hours of community service per semester and must complete at least one course per semester in American studies, American history, literature, art, or government.

Students selected for the program When necessary Before participating in the program, you must participate in a non-face-to-face intensive English course. Program participants cannot choose a U.S. school or semester. School allocation is made taking into account the participating student’s major as much as possible.

Students participating in the Global Exchange Student Program are provided with all expenses related to participation in the program, including tuition, airfare, system fees, and medical insurance.

Ⅲ. Qualifications for application

Ⅳ. Recruitment schedule

  4. 3rd screening – TOEFL test (April) and final screening by the U.S. Department of State
  5. Notification of final successful applicants (June, timing of notification may vary)

Ⅴ. How to apply and backup document

When filling out the online application, please carefully read and fill out the application instructions and information, and check all items before submitting online. The application form can be saved or edited while being completed. Please fill out all items in English and answer all questions.

After completing the application and attaching the required files, you must “Submit” Click the button to submit. Information on the application cannot be changed after submission. The deadline is December 15, 2024 (EST).

Transcripts and letters of recommendation are reviewed for authenticity.

  4. Two English letters of recommendation and letters of recommendation can be downloaded from the online application. However, you can use a general recommendation letter format. (If the letter of recommendation is in Korean, an English translation must be attached)

  1. If you take the final exam in December 2024, you will be a first-year student completing the second semester. Can I apply?
    >> Yes, you can apply. Please submit transcripts for up to one semester, and we will request additional transcripts if necessary.
  2. I am a student who will be in the 4th year next year. Can I apply?
    >> Upon completion of the program, you must return and take at least two semesters of classes to graduate. Please plan your application taking into account that you cannot select the fall/spring semester when participating in the program.
  3. Do I need to get letters of recommendation from different recommenders?
    >> Yes, you can receive one letter of recommendation from two recommenders.
  4. I am a dual citizen of the United States and Korea. Can I apply?
    >> No, US nationals are not eligible to apply.
  5. I am a foreign student studying in Korea. Can I apply?
    >> No, we only recruit Korean students. Check with the U.S. embassy in your country.
  6. Can I see a list of participating universities? Can I choose which school and semester I want to participate in?
    >> A list of participating universities is not provided, but schools across the United States are participating in the program. Please note that participants cannot choose their school or semester.
  7. Do I need to submit TOEFL test scores in advance?
    >> No, applicants who pass the second interview will be separately notified of the TOEFL test.
  8. I would like to submit a scholarship or other award.
    >> Yes, if you would like to submit documents that may be helpful during screening, please upload them to the portfolio section of the online application.
  9. I pressed the “Submit” button before completing the application. Can’t we get it back?
