Apple Intelligence: What You Need to Know About the Upcoming Release

As October approaches, Apple Intelligence is set to revolutionize the iPhone experience. With its release, users can expect a range of exciting features, including writing tools, a more conversational Siri, and enhanced photo search capabilities.

However, it’s essential to note that Apple Intelligence requires specific hardware specifications to run smoothly. According to Apple’s supporting documentation, every iPhone with Apple Intelligence on iOS 18.1 or later needs 4GB of dedicated storage. This means that the starting storage capacity for the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, and 16 Pro will be reduced from 128GB to 124GB, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will see a decrease from 256GB to 252GB.

A footnote in the guidance document hints at the possibility of increased storage requirements for Apple Intelligence models in the future, likely due to the release of additional features. This could impact the iPhone’s storage capacity, especially with the introduction of next-generation Siri and other iOS 19 features.

While the exact purpose of the 4GB storage requirement is unclear, it’s worth noting that similar documentation for the iPad doesn’t mention the same requirement. For Macs, an M1 or better processor is necessary to run Apple Intelligence.

Apple Intelligence will be rolled out gradually, starting with iOS 18.1 next month. The initial release will include features like text summaries, notifications, and a more capable Siri. Later updates will introduce Zenmoji, AI image creation, Siri context recognition, and built-in support for GPT Chat.
