Reminder to certify documents

Please ensure that all documents uploaded to support an application are certified. Certified documents are required to verify the student’s study prior the issuing of an unconditional offer.

New photo ID requirement for international applications

From 1 December 2024, to help expedite application processing, all international applicants must include a scanned copy of one of the following:

A valid passport (a copy of the details page), or

A government-issued photo ID (if a passport is unavailable).

Unconditional offers (where eligible) will only be issued once this condition is met.

Information related to undergraduate applications

United States results digital signature security requirement

For studies completed in an US institution, students are required to upload transcripts that carry the digital signature security feature. A blue ribbon across the top of the document will display a message that the digital signature is valid. For this option, please do not email the transcript the University. Alternatively (if the blue ribbon version is not available), please have the student release their transcripts to the University of Melbourne via the accredited verification platform – Parchment . The student can nominate the University of Melbourne with the email address: undergrad-admissions@unimelb.edu.au. Students should add their username (student ID) under the recipient information name.

Final deadline for A Level results for start year 2025

In a previous communication we provided conflicting advice on the final deadline for A Level results, one stated 15 January, 2025 the other stated 31 January, 2025. To clarify, the correct date is 31 January, 2025.

HKDSE Exam Results Notice

The University will accept the HKDSE Examination Results Notice for meeting the conditional offer, as long as the student also provides an official letter from their school stating that they have completed their secondary education at their school. This letter must include the completion date.

Information related to graduate applications

Melbourne School of Design scholarships

International students starting their graduate studies with MSD in 2025 will be automatically considered for two new scholarships: the Design Global Graduate Scholarship and the Design Graduate Pathway Scholarship.

  • Design Graduate Pathway Scholarship: Awarded automatically based on academic merit to high-achieving international students who complete their Bachelor of Design at the University of Melbourne and enrol in an MSD master’s program. This scholarship provides a 10% fee remission for the duration of the course.
  • Design Global Graduate Scholarship:
    Offers a 20% fee remission for the duration of your MSD program. Eligibility is based on academic merit and depends on citizenship and/or the institution where the student completed their previous studies. If a student qualifies for both scholarships, they will receive the Design Global Graduate Scholarship, offering the higher fee remission.

A comprehensive list of MSD graduate scholarships is available here. To be considered for these scholarships, course applications must be submitted by 31 October 2024.

Master of Data Science

The Master of Data Science course has recently been revised. There are four new specialisations which have been designed to give students the opportunity to better tailor the course to their existing qualifications and career goals. These modifications will make the program more accessible to students from diverse educational backgrounds, while upholding our commitment to excellence in statistical and computational data science learning outcomes. The four new specialisations available for commencement start year 2025 are:

  • Foundational Data Science
  • Statistical Data Science
  • Computational Data Science
  • Computational and Statistical Data Science.

There are no changes to the subject prerequisite requirements for this program, noting that each subject prerequisite can be met by completing an online Coursera course prior to receiving an offer.

Master of Science (Physics) supervisor process

Students applying for the Master of Science (Physics) must secure supervisor endorsement before submitting their online application. Previously, students were able to submit an online application and be assessed for the course before supervisor endorsement. This change is to reflect the capacity of the school and ensure adequate supervision.

We have streamlined our list of potential supervisors to make this easier for the student. A list of academics can be found on the School’s website. Only academics from the Teaching and Research list can be contacted for supervision.

Deadlines: Master of Management suite and Master of International Business

The application deadline for the below courses has been extended to 31 October 2024 for start year 2025 intake.

High-achieving applicants will receive rolling course offers (and scholarship offers where applicable), and all other applications will be considered in a selection round. All outcomes will be issued by the end of November 2024.

1 U.S. transcript digital signature requirements

For students who completed their studies in the United States, uploaded transcripts must be digitally signed, with a blue band at the top indicating a valid signature.

  • If this version is not available, please send the transcript to the University of Melbourne through the Parchment platform to the recipient’s address:undergrad-admissions@unimelb.edu.au
  • Students need to indicate their username (student ID) in the recipient information.

2 Final deadline for submission of A Level results

We have previously published deadlines for different versions, and for clarity, the final deadline is January 31, 2025。

3 HKDSE examination result notification

The university accepts HKDSE examination results as meeting conditional admission requirements, but students are also required to submit an official letter from the school certifying that they have completed secondary education and indicating the date of completion.

3. Postgraduate application related information

1 Melbourne School of Design (MSD) Scholarships

International postgraduate students enrolling from 2025 onwards will automatically be included in the selection of two new scholarships:

  • Design Graduate Pathway Scholarship: A 10% tuition fee reduction is provided to outstanding students who have completed the undergraduate design course at the University of Melbourne and studied for the MSD master’s course.
  • Design Global Graduate Scholarship: Provides 20% tuition reduction, and selection is based on academic performance and nationality. If you meet the qualifications for both scholarships, the Design Global Graduate Scholarship with a higher reduction ratio will be awarded.

2 Data Science Master’s Program Updates

Starting in 2025, the Master of Data Science program will introduce four new tracks to help students tailor their courses according to their qualifications and career goals:

  • Master of International Business
    Master of Management
    Master of Management (Marketing)
    Master of Management (Accounting)
    Master of Management (Finance)
    Master of Management (Human Resources)

Course entry requirements have not changed. The prerequisite requirements for each course can be satisfied by completing Coursera online courses.

3 Update on tutor process for Physics Master’s program

Applicants to the Physics Master’s program must obtain support from a supervisor before submitting their online application. The school website provides a list of mentors, and only scholars listed on the teaching and research list can be contacted as mentors.

4. Application extension for the Master of Management and International Business program

Application deadlines for the following courses have been extended to October 31, 2024：

  • Master of International Business
  • Master of Management
  • Master of Marketing Management
  • Master of Accounting Management
  • Master of Financial Management
  • Master of Human Resource Management

Applicants with high scores will be given priority for admission and scholarships, and the remaining applications will be evaluated before the end of November.
