Resolving KVM Remote Console Connection Failure on Dell Precision 5560 and XPS 9510

Symptoms

When using Ultra High Definition (UHD) displays on Dell Precision 5560 and XPS 9510, the KVM remote console connection fails while connected to a computer with Intel Active Management Technology (AMT).

Cause

The issue occurs because the UHD (3840*2400) LCD screen resolution on Dell Precision 5560 and XPS 9510 exceeds the resolution range supported by Intel Management Engine.

Solution

To resolve the issue, lower the LCD screen resolution to a range supported by KVM Intel ME Design. This will allow remote console access.

Steps to Change LCD Screen Resolution:

  1. Navigate to System > Display > Advanced settings > Display 1 and click on View adapter properties for.
  2. In the Adapter tab, click on List All Modes and select 1920 x 1200, True Color (32 bit), and 60 Hertz. Click OK.
  3. Verify that the LCD screen resolution has been changed to 1920 x 1200.
