Unlock the Doors to Mandarin Mastery: 2024 Chinese Language Proficiency Test Registration Now Open in Northern California
2024 Bay Area Chinese Language Proficiency Test
The Northern California Chinese School Association, in collaboration with the Education Group of the Taiwan Office in San Francisco, will host the “2024 Bay Area Chinese Language Proficiency Test” on November 17, 2024, at 10 a.m.
Li Naya, president of the Northern California Chinese School Association, emphasized that this test, officially certified by the government of the Republic of China, provides students with an opportunity to assess their Chinese learning results. The test results can be used to apply for studying in Taiwan, scholarships, or job opportunities.
Dong Qingfeng, head of the Education Group of the San Francisco Office, highlighted two significant changes this year. Firstly, the computer-based test from last year will be replaced with a computerized aptitude test (CAT), which is not graded and will be conducted at a different venue.
Regarding exam fees, some tests require payment, while others are free. The traditional Huace and Children’s Test require payment, whereas TCML adult class students can enjoy the free “preparatory level test.” The number of places for the paid exams will be determined based on the number of applicants, with no limit on the number of places. However, the free computer CAT test has limited spots, with only 30 places available due to equipment constraints.
Upon passing the test, candidates will receive a “pass certificate” issued by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China. The Huace Preparatory Level only provides a transcript, not a certificate. The National Chinese Language Test Promotion Committee (Huace) is responsible for issuing transcripts. This certificate can serve multiple purposes:
- As a reference for applying for the “Taiwan Scholarship” and the “Ministry of Education Chinese Language Scholarship.”
- As a reference for calculating the Chinese subject scores in the “Overseas Joint Admissions Association” test-free areas.
- As a reference standard for Chinese language proficiency when Taiwan’s colleges and universities recruit foreign students.
- As proof of Chinese language proficiency when applying for a job.
