・What is this event partner “suzusan”?
This brand was launched in 2008 in Dusseldorf, Germany, by the fifth generation of Suzuzo Shoten, which handles the traditional Japanese craft “Arimatsu Narumi Shibori” that has continued since the Edo period, and has a workshop in Arimatsu, Aichi Prefecture.Since its establishment, the planning has been carried out in Germany, which has a bird’s-eye view of the global region, and the production has been carried out in Arimatsu, the production area for shibori. Shibori-dye, which creates hundreds of different patterns through simple techniques such as sewing with a needle, binding with thread, and sandwiching between boards, is characterized by the fact that all the work is done by hand, so no two pieces are the same.
This time, we are collaborating with suzusan’s new service on-site squeeze workshop. While inheriting the wisdom of over 400 years of our predecessors, we continue to inherit traditional techniques that have been passed down over many years under the concept of “handcrafts that suit lifestyles around the world” and create products that fit people’s lives. do.
Currently, it is sold at over 120 carefully selected stores in 29 countries around the world, including Paris, New York, Berlin, and Milan, which introduce the latest in the fashion scene.
・Tour overview
This time, we planned a sustainable tour as part of a school trip for junior high and high school students who came to Japan from London, England.
While touring famous buildings that inherit the spirit of Kenji Kawai, who aimed to break away from infrastructure and become self-sufficient in nature, you can also create things by hand from scratch while interacting with seasonal plants in the surrounding landscape. It is a tour where you can experience the joy of making things using Arimatsu dyeing, a traditional Japanese technique.
“CORRUGATED HOUSE” also holds workshop events with accommodation plans, so if you are interested in holding a tour or participating in an event, please contact us.

Relax in Japanese-made home furniture■Arimatsu dyeing experience workshop
As part of a visiting workshop run by the Arimatsu dyeing brand “suzusan,” original handkerchiefs in two colors were created using dye made from chestnuts harvested in the garden of CORRUGATED HOUSE.
Explaining the cultural trends related to shibori and tie-dye dyeing around the worldAfter a lecture in English by suzusan staff, we took a walk through the garden to pick up stones and nuts to make dyed patterns.

In the process of wrapping the material in fabric and tying it with thread, the students used their free ideas to create a variety of shibori designs.
The rolled up fabric is then dyed by suzasan staff in stages.

Finally, after rinsing and putting them in the dryer, each piece was completed with its own individuality.
