How about it? Does it look tempting? This is a coffee cognition class for freshmen majoring in “Coffee Science and Engineering” at the College of Tropical Crops of Yunnan Agricultural University.

The “Coffee Science and Engineering” major was established this year. It is the first “undergraduate coffee major” in China and the only one in the world. This initiative attracted the first batch of students from 11 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions to start their university life in Pu’er, known as the ”Coffee Capital of China”.

Yunnan’s unique geographical and climatic environment is very suitable for coffee production. Yunnan’s coffee planting area, output, and agricultural output value account for more than 98% of the country’s total. In 2023, the scale of China’s coffee industry reached 265.4 billion yuan, and it is expected to reach 313.3 billion yuan in 2024. According to the current scale, the domestic coffee secondary industry talent gap is no less than 10,000, and the tertiary industry talent gap is no less than 100,000.
