Unlocking Global Prosperity: DBSA and AIIB Join Forces for 5th Finance in Common Summit
Finance in Commons Summit 2025: Fostering Infrastructure and Finance for Sustainable Growth
The fifth annual Finance in Commons (FiCS) summit is scheduled to take place on February 26-28, 2025, in Cape Town, South Africa. The event will be jointly hosted by the Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), with the support of AFD (Agence Française de Développement).
Aligning with South Africa’s G20 Chairmanship
The Summit’s theme, “Fostering Infrastructure and Finance for Just and Sustainable Growth,” aligns with South Africa’s upcoming role as Chair of the G20 in 2025. The event will focus on key development issues, including infrastructure for climate action, adaptation, and resilience, as well as inclusive finance and digital transformation.
A Solutions Summit for Public Development Banks
The FiCS is a global initiative launched in 2020 by the World Federation of Development Finance Institutions (WFDFI), the International Development Finance Club (IDFC), and Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs). The Summit provides a platform for public development banks (PDBs) and their stakeholders to present robust and effective responses to making sustainability the new normal in finance.
Driving Inclusive Economic Growth and Sustainable Development
“In a year when South Africa presides over the G20, this event underlines the DBSA’s commitment to driving inclusive economic growth and sustainable development in developing countries,” said Boitumelo Mosako, CEO of the DBSA.
A Stronger Partnership between Asia and Africa
“We are honored to co-host FiCS with DBSA,” said Jin Liqun, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of AIIB. “The collaboration between AIIB and DBSA is a sign of a stronger partnership between Asia and Africa, with the aim of promoting investment in infrastructure and sustainable development across the two regions and beyond.”
<h2.Unlocking the Collective Potential of PDBs
“We thank DBSA for co-hosting the next edition of FiCS with AIIB and look forward to welcoming our community in South Africa,” added Rémy Rioux, Chairman of General Finance and CEO of AFD. ”The year 2025 is a significant milestone, coming a decade after the Addis Ababa conference, the 2030 SDGs Agenda, and the Paris Climate Agreement. We urgently need to unlock the full collective potential of PDBs, both in terms of quantity and quality, and install a new, efficient, and large-scale global financial architecture.”
