US Embassy Launches “English for All Mauritanians” Initiative
The Embassy of the United States of America in Nouakchott has launched the “English for All Mauritanians” initiative, a program designed to promote English language learning among Mauritanian youth.
Funded by the US government, the initiative aims to respond to the growing demand for English language skills in Mauritania. The program’s first phase includes the publication of 10 educational clips, which will be made available to the public.
According to the embassy, the initiative seeks to “promote dialogue, build stronger cultural ties, and strengthen the partnership between the United States and Mauritania.” By providing access to English language learning resources, the embassy hopes to empower Mauritanian youth with the skills they need to succeed in their professional and educational pursuits.
John T. Ice, the embassy’s charge d’affaires, emphasized the importance of English language skills for Mauritanian youth. “The goal of the initiative is to make the English language among the skills of Mauritanian youth,” he said. “English is a tool that Mauritanian youth can use to build their professional and educational careers, and build Mauritania.”
Ice also highlighted the potential benefits of the initiative for Mauritania’s global competitiveness. “This will improve the strength of Mauritania in the pipeline, not only locally, but at a global level,” he said.
