Unlocking Prado’s Hidden Gems: How Private Companies are Revolutionizing Neighborhood Tourism
Immersive Time Travel Experience in Medellín’s Prado Neighborhood
For centuries, time travel has fascinated human imagination. EC Tours, a Medellín-based tourism agency, has turned this dream into a reality with their award-winning project, “Journey to the Past: El Prado and El Centro.”
This innovative tour captivated the judges at the ninth edition of the Tourism Product Show, a competition organized by Anato, Antioquia, Chocó, and the Medellín Bureau, with the support of the Mayor’s Office.
Who is EC Tours?
EC Tours is a tourism agency born out of EC Transportes, a company that provides transportation services to top hotels in Medellín, including Inter, Marriott, York, and ClikClak. With over five years of experience in the industry, EC Tours has been in operation for three years, offering personalized and high-quality tourism experiences to its clients.
“We started with the idea of showcasing a lesser-known side of Medellín,” says Juliana Gómez, company manager. “We discovered the rich heritage of the Prado neighborhood and decided to create a tour that would bring this hidden gem to life.”
What to Expect from the Tour
The “Journey to the Past” tour is an immersive experience that takes you on a journey through Medellín’s culture, art, gastronomy, music, and heritage. The tour begins at your hotel, where you’ll be picked up in a modern car and taken to the house of Mónica Durán, a long-time resident of the Prado neighborhood.
Mónica will welcome you into her home, a declared heritage site, and share stories about the history of Prado. As you leave her house, you’ll be transported back in time, literally, as you board a vintage car that will take you on a panoramic tour of the neighborhood.
During the tour, you’ll visit special places like Casa Tres Patios and Casa Providencia, and conclude with traditional music and a joyful evening at La Pascasia.
Prado’s Revival
Redefining the Prado neighborhood is an idea that’s gaining popularity in Medellín. With its high heritage value and architectural beauty, Prado is a hidden gem waiting to be rediscovered.
“We want to bring life back to this corner of Medellín,” says Juliana. “Our tour is just one of many initiatives aimed at showcasing the city’s rich history and cultural heritage.”
