Faculty Interview No. 7: General Education Professor Yoshiaki Goto
The University of Commerce website features a special page called “Faculty Interview,” where we introduce professors engaged in various research fields. This series highlights the diverse aspects of their research that cannot be found in university brochures.
In this feature, professors explain their research content and its connections to society in an easy-to-understand way. Today, we are introducing General Education Professor Yoshiaki Goto.
Professor Goto’s research field is mathematics, specifically “special functions and hypergeometric functions.” While mathematics is often associated with the Faculty of Science, there are also professors at the University of Commerce who specialize in this field.
In the interview, Professor Goto shares insights on the connections between mathematics and various fields, how to conduct a seminar, and mathematics classes at the University of Commerce.
The University of Commerce places emphasis on mathematics scores in its individual academic ability test, where students can choose to take “Mathematics III.” This means that students who excel in mathematics may have a slight advantage.
Even after enrollment, students can continue to learn about mathematics and its applications in subjects like economics and social information. Being proficient in science can make it easier to understand these subjects, and there are opportunities for science students to demonstrate their abilities.
