This collection of case studies, titled “Nurturing a Scientific Mind: Collection of Case Studies Vol. 21,” is available for free viewing and download on the Sony Education Foundation website.
A Collection of Case Studies for Daily Childcare and In-School Training
This collection of case studies has been published every year since the year after the “Sony Early Childhood Education Support Program” was launched in 2002, and this is the 21st volume. This year’s edition is divided into chapters on unique childcare practices and ingenious ideas for cultivating a “scientific mind” in kindergartens, with the perspectives of “development and learning at each age,” “unique perspectives of kindergartens,” and “expanding inquiry.”
Visualizing the Connection between Kindergarten and Elementary School
To help readers visualize how the ”scientific mind” cultivated from infancy leads to deeper learning in elementary school, this collection of case studies also includes case studies from schools that were selected for the “educational grant essay” competition.
The Connecting Eyes Study Group
The Sony Education Foundation has established the “Connecting Eyes Study Group” to discuss “kindergarten, daycare, and elementary school collaboration” with a focus on children’s behavior, regardless of the position of the kindergarten or school. This study group aims to promote collaboration between kindergartens and elementary schools to provide a seamless education experience for children.

The Sony Education Foundation’s Mission
The Sony Education Foundation has been conducting research projects on early childhood education and childcare for over 20 years, focusing on the cultivation of curiosity, creativity, and independence in children who will live in the future as a “scientific mind.” We will continue to widely publicize excellent practices through this collection of case studies and presentations at selected kindergartens, striving to improve the quality of childcare and promote the appeal of childcare that cultivates a “scientific mind” in children.
About the Sony Education Foundation
The Sony Education Foundation was established in 1969 by Sony founder Masaru Ibuka to provide educational support with a focus on “nurturing a scientific mind” and “raising children who love science” for children from infancy through high school. Today, the foundation continues to develop businesses that inherit Ibuka’s aspirations, providing educational support to children and promoting the importance of early childhood education.
