Nagoya University of Arts’ reading circle, “Komorebi,” recently participated in the “Culture of Living Exhibition” at AEON Town Meisei store. This event was organized by the parenting circle “Fureai Hiroba” and the parenting support group “moms.,” both of which are active in Nishi-ku, Nagoya.
“Komorebi” is led by students who have earned the certified picture book specialist qualification, a unique credential offered by Nagoya University of Arts. These students design and host interactive events, such as storytime sessions, in response to requests from the local community.
During the event, the students, despite initial nerves, successfully engaged the audience with hand games, a reading of the popular picture book “Polar Bear’s Pants” (written and illustrated by tupera tupera), and a panel theater performance of “Five Melon Breads” (written by Nakagawa Hirotaka, illustrated by Hata Koshiro).
The event drew a diverse crowd of young children, parents, and local elderly residents, all of whom had a great time interacting with the students. The students, who are set to begin their teaching practice, took necessary precautions against infection by wearing masks during the performance.
