Unmasking Hate: How Trump’s Ties to Laura Loomer Fueled Islamophobia and Conspiracy Theories
Donald Trump Under Fire for Association with Conservative Activist Laura Loomer
Supporters and opponents have called on Republican Donald Trump to distance himself and his campaign from conservative activist Laura Loomer, who is facing criticism for spreading “hate and racist speech” and “dangerous conspiracy theories.”
Loomer has been a controversial figure, having described Islam as a “cancer” and claiming that the events of September 11 were an “inside job.”
Loomer’s Influence on Trump’s Speech
Trump’s supporters believe that praise for conservative Laura Loomer is influencing his speech, with some expressing concerns that he will be swayed by her views.
Loomer was by Trump’s side last Wednesday as he and others recalled the events of September 11, and she also accompanied him on a trip to Pennsylvania to debate his rival, Kamala Harris.
Loomer’s Anti-Refugee Hate Speech
Loomer is known for her anti-refugee hate speech and has described herself as a “proud Islamophobe.” Her closeness to Trump has raised fears among his supporters that he will be swayed by her speech.
In light of this, Trump was forced to define the relationship between him and Loomer, saying that he “supports her and says whatever she wants, so she’s free.”
White House Criticism
On the other hand, Trump’s closeness with Laura Loomer drew the ire of the White House, with Oval House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre describing Loomer’s speech as “racist poison.”
She added that “no leader can be associated with those who spread dangerous and sensationalist conspiracy theories such as the tragic events of September 11 were an inside job.”
