Unmasking the Enigma: The Mysterious Allure of Klaus
The Shadow of Caligula: A Threat to Romanian Democracy
Those who took their baccalaureate with a grade above 7.03 may remember that the Roman emperor Caligula invested his horse, Incitatus, with full rights as a senator. We do not know if the head of parliament has arrived. What we know is that, keeping the proportions, things tend to repeat themselves in the politics at the gates of the East. Except we don’t have a horse, but a president, and we don’t have Caligula, but a Chick.
A President’s Ambition
We have a president who brought PSD to power after claiming in his first term that he had rid the country of PSD. For what reason? You guessed it! Border war and the need for stability. We had to make little brackets here. The eulogist of the service, Vlad Nistor, had the inspiration to tell us, in his second term, that Iohannis’ greatest achievement was that he continued the policy of the alliance with the United States and NATO.
A Failed Education Project
We have a president who, as an ordinary professor, had the personal ambition to create a country project – an educated Romania – which turned out to be not only a complete fiasco, but also stirring up the fog of stability which still offered some predictability to the education system.
A Threat to Democracy
But worst of all, my dears, is the attack on democracy. The most serious is the act of disregarding the electorate. The worst thing is that all these movements are a mockery to us, to all of us, regardless of our political sympathies.
Our Silence is Deafening
But even more serious is another fact: our silence. We must not remain silent in the face of these threats to our democracy.
