Uno Pizzeria & Grill in Revere Reopens Under New Ownership
The Uno Pizzeria & Grill in Revere, Massachusetts, has reopened its doors just five weeks after a temporary closure, thanks to a purchase by the restaurant’s former general manager. The reopening marks a victory for the local community, which valued the Northgate Shopping Center location as a long-standing fixture.
The Norwood-based chain shuttered four New England locations in January – Dedham, Braintree, Revere, and Warwick, Rhode Island – with the Attleboro location following suit shortly after. The closures prompted concern among loyal customers like Mike Barker, who expressed his dismay at the prospect of losing a beloved neighborhood spot.
“When I found out they were closing doors my heart felt heavy,” Barker said, adding that he appreciated the restaurant’s hospitality and the quality of the food, which he described as “comfort food.” He was among the first customers to return upon the Revere location’s reopening.
The restaurant underwent significant renovations during the brief closure, boasting state-of-the-art media, new lighting, and a refreshed aesthetic. Dee Dee Edmondson-Koram, who spearheaded the purchase with her wife, explained the motivation behind the acquisition.
“When it closed, my wife was the general manager,” Edmondson-Koram said. “We had the opportunity to buy the franchise, and we just jumped at that chance. Because we love our staff, and we wanted to keep the jobs and community together here.”
Notably, all former employees have returned to their positions, including 20-year-old Isaiah, who began his career at the restaurant three years ago as a host. He emphasized the unique atmosphere fostered by the restaurant and its clientele.
“The customers here are like none other I’ve dealt with before. Everyone is very welcoming, and we have a family here,” Isaiah said.
Edmondson-Koram highlighted the importance of providing stable employment and a positive work environment. “Every one of our kitchen staff is back and they helped us revamp the place. We want people, number one, to be employed and number two to be excited or happy to come to work, know they’re going to have a solid job and a solid foundation,” she stated. “We have been a presence in Boston since 1979. This location is going to be the only one in the greater Boston area.”
Currently, five Uno Pizzeria & Grill locations remain open in Massachusetts: Bellingham, Sturbridge, Worcester, Springfield, and Revere.
