Typhoon No. 21 ‘Kong-rey’ has developed strongly in the South Sea and is heading north.

In particular, there was great interest as there were concerns that this typhoon would unusually travel north to the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula.

According to statistical data over the past 73 years, there has not been a single typhoon in November on the Korean Peninsula. Let’s find out what happens this time by connecting with an investigative reporter. Reporter Jeong Hye-yoon!

Please tell me the details of the situation.

Yes, as a strong typhoon ‘Kong-rey’ recently developed in the South Sea and headed north, there was a lot of concern that an unusual November typhoon might be recorded on the Korean Peninsula.

First of all, contrary to concerns, this typhoon ‘Kong-rey’ is not expected to travel north to the vicinity of the Korean Peninsula with the strong force of a typhoon.

Currently, Typhoon Kongrey has developed into a strong typhoon with a central wind speed of 37 m, and is expected to strengthen into a very strong typhoon with winds reaching 50 m per second and 180 km per hour between tomorrow and the day after.

It has the power to derail a moving train.

But this typhoon could not go north as is.

Its power is expected to weaken significantly as it passes through Taiwan, which is surrounded by high mountain ranges, later in the week.

In addition, it is expected to move along the southern coast of China and be intercepted by cold upper-level air, weakening once again into an extratropical cyclone.

The U.S. and Japanese Meteorological Administrations are also predicting a similar course and intensity.

In Korea, over the past 73 years since 1951, when typhoon statistical data began to be calculated, there has never been a single typhoon that directly affected or landed on the Korean Peninsula in November.

Although the Korea Meteorological Administration avoided the northward movement of the first November typhoon in history this fall, it urged continued preparation and caution, saying that rain clouds left behind by the typhoon could bring high waves and wind and rain to the sea later in the week.
