The British king made a difficult decision for his brother.
Charles III ended Prince Andrew’s annual grant. The Duke of York is under financial pressure over the cost of maintaining his 30-room Royal Lodge home in Windsor.
Royal author Robert Hardman claims that the British sovereign has decided to stop paying for security at Prince Andrew’s home, according to the Daily Mail. Together, these costs are estimated to run into several million pounds a year.
The request to freeze Prince Andrew’s funding is contained in an updated version of King Charles’ biography written by royal author Robert Hardman.
He says that the man who controls the royal finances has been instructed to stop paying personal support and security to Prince Andrew, according to GlasNews.
Now the son of Queen Elizabeth II will have to find his own way to pay for the maintenance and security of the Royal Lodge, a 19th century building in Windsor.
It comes after the release of two separate films – produced by Netflix and Amazon – of Andrew’s interview on BBC Newsnight in 2019 where he was questioned about his links with US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
After the scandals, Prince Andrew lost all his military titles.
Instead of the large house at Royal Lodge previously owned by the Queen Mother, it is thought the prince could move into the smaller Frogmore Cottage, once occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan, by that maintenance and security costs will be much lower.
But Andrew has his own lease on Royal Lodge, which runs until 2078, and if he can pay it himself, he can stay in the house he shares with his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson.
