Unraveling the Truth: Noppadon Breaks Silence, Defends Reputation Amid Thai Trend Controversy
“Noppadon” asks to stop propagating Thai trends by losing Koh Kood, saying that he is the one who protects the nation. Not betrayal I would like to ask those who misrepresent and slander me to stop.
3 November 2024, Noppadon Pattama, Member of the House of Representatives (MP), Party List Form, Pheu Thai Party and former Minister of Foreign Affairs. Mentioned to spin the trend that Thailand will lose Koh Kood. and called on the government to cancel MOU 44, as well as referring to misleading people about Khao Preah Vihear as a broken record by saying he had asked to exercise his rights and was mentioned. There are people who are genuinely concerned. And some of them are people who helped fuel the national frenzy in 2008 by using falsehoods to smear the then foreign minister. This caused Thailand to lose the Preah Vihear Temple to Cambodia, even though Thailand had already ceded the Preah Vihear Temple to Cambodia according to the World Court decision since 1962.
Later in 2008, Cambodia requested that the temple and the surrounding area be registered as a world heritage site. But the government and himself negotiated until Cambodia agreed to cut off the overlapping areas. He agreed to register only the castle as a World Heritage Site, which had been his for almost 50 years, but was attacked and falsely accused of treason and brought a lawsuit. Later in 2015, the Supreme Court dismissed the case against him. The ruling stated that what he had done was right and that the country would benefit from his actions.
“The fact is that I didn’t sell my country. But it is the people who protect the nation. But some people still don’t realize that the national frenzy over Preah Vihear in 2008 led to clashes along the border. There were soldiers killed and in 2011 Cambodia returned to the International Court of Justice to present an interpretation of the 1962 ICJ ruling. At that time international relations were deteriorating. Ask how these people will be held accountable.”
As for calling for Thailand to cancel MOU 44, Noppadon said the question is whether this will actually cause harm to Thailand. Mr. Surakiat Sathirathai, Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time, who went to sign MOU 44, how could he sign it Furthermore, there were distortions of facts and laws. Three big questions that need to be answered are:
1. The accusation that MOU 44 will cause the loss of Koh Kood is not true Koh Kood belongs to Thailand under the Siam-France Treaty. No one can give Koh Kood to Cambodia. Koh Kood is a district of Thailand. and can travel all the time
2. Accusing MOU 44 of accepting Cambodia’s announced continental shelf boundary. and will cause Thailand to lose its maritime rights This is no longer true. Because the content of MOU 44 in no way accepts the line drawn by Cambodia. Because if we accept it, then why do we negotiate? Particularly important to highlight is the content of Section 5 of MOU 44 which clearly states that Until there is an agreement on the delimitation of maritime zones, it is believed that MOU 44 and the negotiations under MOU 44 will have no impact on maritime claims either of Thailand and Cambodia.
3. The side that accuses the government of wanting to negotiate with Cambodia only to extract oil and gas in areas with overlapping claims. Ignoring the sea area This is an unfounded accusation. This is because it cannot be done under the framework of MOU 44 because a) negotiating the division of maritime areas and b) negotiating the Joint Development Area or JDA must be done in pairs. Indivisible package as specified in Section 2 of MOU 44
“I suspect that the previous government negotiated using MOU 44 without seeing any protests. I believe Thai people should know the facts. It doesn’t mean giving the wrong opinion. People showing honest concern The government is probably ready to listen. As for those who distort and defame, please stop. Some people have banded together to create a nationwide frenzy over the Preah Vihear temple. I still don’t feel responsible for the damage done. I had been slandered about Khao Preah Vihear, destroying me and my family, but when the Supreme Court dismissed the case against me. And the sentence says that what I did was right and that the country will benefit from what I did. Everything became calm.”
