An international flight bound for Chicago was diverted to Boston on Monday after an unruly passenger disrupted the journey, prompting authorities to take the individual into custody, according to Massachusetts State Police.
The incident occurred aboard United Airlines Flight 945, which departed from Frankfurt, Germany, and was en route to O’Hare International Airport when the disruption forced the plane to land at Logan International Airport. Massachusetts State Police were dispatched to the scene at 9:34 a.m. After receiving a call from Massport, the agency that oversees the airport.
Passenger Taken Into Custody
Upon landing, the passenger—whose identity has not been publicly released—was removed from the aircraft and taken into custody by U.S. Customs officials. State Police Trooper Leah O’Connell confirmed that the individual had been restrained during the flight but was cooperative when troopers boarded the plane. O’Connell declined to provide further details about the passenger’s behavior, citing an ongoing investigation.
The passenger was initially offered medical attention at the gate but declined. However, they were later transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for evaluation, police said. A State Police spokesperson indicated that the individual would receive a summons to appear in court at a later date.
Airlines Responds
In a statement, United Airlines confirmed that the flight had landed safely in Boston to address the disruptive passenger. The airline did not provide additional details about the nature of the disruption but said the aircraft was expected to depart for Chicago later on Monday afternoon.

Flight 945 is a regular route between Frankfurt and Chicago, typically operated by United Airlines. The diversion marks the latest in a series of recent incidents involving unruly passengers on commercial flights, though authorities have not indicated whether this case is connected to broader trends.
Investigation Ongoing
Massachusetts State Police have not released further information about the passenger’s actions or the circumstances leading to the diversion. The agency emphasized that the investigation remains active, and no additional details would be provided at this time.
Logan International Airport, which has seen multiple incidents involving disruptive passengers in recent years, did not issue a separate statement regarding the diversion. Airport operations continued normally following the incident.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
