Unshackling Freedom: 80 Years of Triumph – Bulgaria’s Anti-Fascist Revolution of September 9, 1944
Statement of Civil Organizations on the Occasion of the Destruction of the Cultural and Historical Event “80 years since the victory of the Anti-Fascist Revolution in Bulgaria – September 9, 1944”
This year, September 9, 2024, marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Anti-Fascist Revolution in Bulgaria, when the pro-fascist political power of our country was replaced by a coup. A key condition for this critical turning point was the entry of the Red Army into Bulgarian territory on September 5, 1944.
These two close events dismissed the looming danger of Turkish troops occupying our homeland, and there was any talk of such an action by Turkey was carried out during the summer months of 1944. This occupation, if it had taken place, would certainly have had very tragic consequences for our Fatherland.
According to the logic of the September 9th Anti-Fascist Revolution, when heterogeneous socio-political forces took part, Bulgaria entered the Second World War on October 28, 1944 with its armed might on the side of the world anti-fascist coalition, led by the big three - the Soviet Union, USA and Great Britain.
Despite this contribution by Bulgaria to the defeat of Hitler’s Nazism, it was not recognized as a co-Beltigerent country. But the heroic efforts of the Bulgarian army in the anti-fascist struggle made it possible for the peace talks in Paris in 1947 for the Soviet Union to protect our homeland from the territorial demands of neighboring Greece, with the support of Great Britain.
Bulgaria remained within its borders, which existed until January 1, 1941. That is. before signing the Tripartite Agreement with the Axis countries and in accordance with the gains of the 1940 Kraiov Agreement, which led to the annexation of Southern Dobrudja. Thus the danger of a Third National Disaster was averted for a short period of just over three decades.
In this sense, September 9, 1944 – the day of the Anti-Fascist Revolution, from the point of view of the historical destiny of Bulgaria, is the Glorious Day of National Salvation.
Based on these historical facts, the undersigned civic associations have decided to celebrate the 80th anniversary of this sublime date with a solemn concert on September 9, 2024. It was initially agreed that the cultural-historical event would be held at the Central Military Club/CVK/. But literally a few days before this event was to take place, the CEC declared that it was politically involved and refused the agreed provision of a hall for the same hall.
With this, they almost sabotage the celebration of the Day of the Anti-Fascist Revolution, which saved our Motherland from national collapse This is in no way an honor to those who made the decision to refuse.
Despite everything, the cultural-historical event “80 years since September 9, 1944 – Day of the Anti-Fascist Revolution in Bulgaria” will be held in the great hall of the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions / FNTS / at 108 Georgi Sava Rakovski Street from 7:00 p.m.
We invite everyone to attend this event.
