Unveiling a Decade of Harmony: Gwangju City Celebrates 10 Years of Chinese Culture Week with Vibrant Cultural and Youth Exchanges

The 10th Gwangju Chinese Culture Week
Gwangju City announced on the 22nd that it will hold the 10th Gwangju China Culture Week and promote cultural exchange between Korea and China.
The Cultural Week event, hosted by Gwangju City and sponsored by the Consulate General of China in Gwangju, opened at the Gwangju China Center on the 20th and will continue until the 26th.
The opening ceremony was attended by Gwangju Mayor Kang Ki-jung, Chinese Consul General in Gwangju Gu Jingqi, Sun Liyulin, Director of the Propaganda Department of the Changzhi Municipal People’s Government, and other sister city officials and Chinese students studying abroad.
Cultural Exchanges and Events
In particular, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of China Culture Week, the cultural and art troupe from Changzhi City in Shaanxi Province, China, a sister city of Gwangju, and the martial arts troupe from Shaolin Temple in Henan Province visited Gwangju and performed Peking opera and martial arts demonstrations.
On the 21st, a language and culture competition was held, including a Chinese speaking contest, a Korean-Chinese singing contest, and a general knowledge quiz.
There will also be cultural experiences such as cooking tastings, carving, and crafts, as well as a photography contest, a Korea-China art exchange exhibition, a Korea-China youth forum, and a social networking service (SNS) photo and video contest.
Mayor’s Message
Mayor Kang Ki-jung of Gwangju said, “China Culture Week is a place of unity and cultural communication between Gwangju and China,” adding, “I hope that the cultural exchanges accumulated over the past 10 years will expand into the economy, tourism, and industry.”
