Sony Korea Releases FE 85mm F1.4 GM II Lens for Enhanced Portrait Photography

Sony Korea has officially announced the release of the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II (SEL85F14GM2) lens, a premium single-focus lens designed for enhanced portrait photography. The SEL85F14GM2 is the second-generation lens of the SEL85F14GM, released in 2016, and is the first GM2 product in Sony’s fixed lens lineup.
The SEL85F14GM2 boasts a more compact size, sophisticated optical design, and attractive bokeh performance. It combines improved resolution to support high-resolution bodies, providing optimal performance for portrait photography. The lens features a filter diameter of 77 mm, a diameter of 84.7 mm, a length of 107.3 mm, and a weight of 642 g, making it approximately 20% lighter and 13% smaller than its predecessor.
The SEL85F14GM2 is equipped with two XA (extreme aspherical) lenses and two ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses to effectively suppress chromatic aberration. It provides uniform resolution and rendering all the way to the edges of the image, allowing for high-resolution images. Sony’s unique Nano AR Coating II technology suppresses flare and ghosting to deliver clear images. In addition, the 11 circular aperture blades and precisely controlled spherical aberration realize the smooth, beautiful bokeh of the G Master lens.
The SEL85F14GM2 features two XD (eXtreme Dynamic) linear motors and high-speed control performance, providing extremely fast and agile AF performance. When taking pictures, it tracks moving subjects up to three times faster and with high precision compared to its predecessor. It also fully supports the 120fps continuous shooting of the Alpha 9 III (A9M3), and subject tracking performance has improved by up to seven times.
The SEL85F14GM2 enables smooth video shooting at F1.4. It minimizes focus breathing, supports body breathing compensation, and offers flexible operation with two user-assignable focus lock buttons and an AF/MF switch. Furthermore, the independent aperture ring and linear response MF enable intuitive control when shooting.
The front of the lens is coated with fluorine, making it easy to remove fingerprints, dust, oil, and other contaminants from the surface. It also has a dust- and splash-proof design, making it safe to use in challenging outdoor environments.
The sales price of the SEL85F14GM2 is 2.69 million won, and it will be officially sold starting today through Sony Korea’s official online and offline sales outlets.
