Unveiling the Future of Education: O’Higgins University Institute and School of Engineering in Rengo Takes Shape
O’Higgins University Institute and School of Engineering Unveils Final Design Project Model in Rengo
“The Ministry of Education and the Government of Chile remain committed to looking for an alternative that will allow us to realize this immense, ambitious, but necessary project in the short term,” said the Minister of Education, Nicolás Cataldo.
The final design project model of the O’Higgins University Institute and School of Engineering (UOH), Rengo headquarters, was unveiled this Monday. The project will be located in the El sector, in front of the Rengo Orange urban Building.
The activity was attended by the Minister of Education, Nicolás Cataldo, the mayor of Rengo, Carlos Soto, the rector of O’Higgins University, Fernanda Kri, among other authorities, as well as the presentation of a group of students who make up the symphony orchestra of El Naranjal School, Magaly Fuentes.
Commitment to the Project
Carlos Soto announced that this Monday the emblematic project, which the neighbors love and desire, will begin to have a definitive life. The desire is to place the heart of the O’Higgins region in Rengo, with a serious project after one was abandoned at the University of Valparaíso.
Fernanda Kri, rector of the UOH, highlighted the commitment that exists with this project, recalling that the university carries out research that is relevant to local problems, with higher accreditation, with more than 7 thousand undergraduate students, distributed in 27 majors, with two doctoral programs and 5 master’s programs.
Regional Attention and Development
One of the challenges identified by the rector is regional attention, because at the moment the students are concentrated in Rancagua and the surrounding communities. The commitment is to be able to reach the whole region and fight against centralism, which helps this devolution and improves the regional coverage that exists today.
Having a campus in this commune will allow us to have students from Rengo, but also from other regions, by having the metro train practically at the doors of the educational facility.
Design and Funding
The design of the campus was funded thanks to the FNDR project, it has the building permits, the land where it will be built exists, however, funding for that construction work must be obtained at the moment.
Governor Pablo Silva said that more than 800 million pesos have been financed for the design of this project, including the commitment to finance part of the construction of the faculty in Rengo.
Short-Term Commitment
The Minister of Education, Nicolás Cataldo, recalled that the University in Rengo is realizing a commitment that has been happening for quite some time. He pointed to the current project of O’Higgins University, which is combined with a view of the territory.
Cataldo argued that what is coming now is how to be responsible for this effort that has been made, in its form and not when discussing whether an initiative like this will be carried out.
