Unveiling the Hidden Treasures of Laojun Mountain: 2352 Plant Specimens Uncovered in Groundbreaking Research Project
2352 Plant Specimens Collected: New Progress in Laojun Mountain Scientific Expedition
Northwest Yunnan Laojun Mountain Scientific Investigation and Protection and Utilization Planning Project Yields Significant Results
The Northwest Yunnan Laojun Mountain Scientific Investigation and Protection and Utilization Planning Project has achieved new milestones. As of now, the scientific research team has collected 2,352 plant specimens, 234 animal samples, and nearly 10,000 valid images of animals, plants, natural landscapes, and cultural heritage. This breakthrough is crucial for promoting regional natural ecosystem protection and sustainable economic and social development, as well as accelerating ecological civilization construction.
During the project’s promotion, 12 scientific research teams conducted 22 field surveys in Laojun Mountain, with 1,362 people participating in field surveys for a total of 228 days. The survey route was designed according to the regional characteristics of Laojun Mountain, covering different altitude gradients and ecological environments. This ensured the representativeness and comprehensiveness of the investigation. Currently, 71 monitoring equipment have been deployed, and a preliminary list of animals and plants has been established. A land use and geographic resource database has also been built. Furthermore, 12 scientific research papers and 4 decision-making advisory reports have been published.
The large fungus scientific research team has made significant discoveries, including two new species of Artomyces (Artomyces pteruloides, Artomyces purpureoalbus) and one new species of Boletopsis distributed in the area. While collecting natural resource data, experts also collected plant and animal specimens, providing physical evidence for species identification and biodiversity research.
