Charbel Coffi’s Exhibition “A Thousand and One Thoughts” Now Open at the French Institute in Cotonou
The exhibition “A Thousand and One Thoughts” by Charbel Coffi is open to the public between September 6 and 28, 2024, at the French Institute in Cotonou. As a prelude to the opening, art enthusiasts gathered to discover the works and the artist, last Thursday, September 5. The event was attended by the new French ambassador to Benin, Nadège Chouat; Ambassador of the United States of America to Benin, Brian Shukan; and Carole Borna, technical adviser for the arts in the Benin Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Arts.
The artist Charbel Coffi presents the works of his new exhibition at the French Cotonou Institute between September 6 and 28, 2024. The exhibition “A Thousand and One Thoughts” introduces the public to the “spiritual states of thinkers and creators” according to Coffee Toussaint Charbel Houadjeto.
“A Thousand and One Thoughts is a series that pays tribute to all creators, thinkers, writers, etc. In this series, I illustrated the spiritual states of thinkers and creators. This is what you see on each painting…”
Charbel Coffi explained the inspiration behind his exhibition, stating that it reminds us that “the truth lies in the quiet listening of our being.”

Charbel Coffi is open to all kinds of questions from the public throughout the exhibition. As an artist committed to protecting the environment and promoting African cultural identity, Coffee Toussaint Charbel Houadjeto has had several exhibitions.
Charbel Coffi founded Ateliers Coffi in 2022, an inspiring gallery. Although he started his career in the construction industry, he has given his time since 2003 to perfect his craft behind the scenes. Thanks to this decision, over the years he has developed a refined technique and artistic maturity which today earns him the admiration of his peers.
His works are now exhibited at the Benin Arts Development Agency and appear in the collections of important collectors in Africa, Europe, and the United States. In addition, he has produced several series of commissioned works for clients who are passionate about art.
