September 15, 1934, marked the birth of the renowned artist Izzat Al-Alaili, who left an indelible mark on the world of cinema, drama, and theatre. With a career spanning over five decades and more than 190 works, his name and legacy continue to inspire and captivate audiences.
Throughout his life, Izzat Al-Alaili experienced immense success, but he also faced his share of challenges, including depression and pain. The loss of his partner and wife, Sana al-Hadidi, in 2017, was a devastating blow that left him heartbroken. The couple had been together for over 50 years, and her passing left a void in his life that could never be filled.
A Life of Art and Creativity
Izzat Al-Alaili’s daughter, in an interview, spoke about the profound impact her mother’s death had on her father. “My mother’s death affected my father greatly because she was the most important thing in his life.” Her mother had been the driving force behind Izzat Al-Alaili’s success, encouraging him to pursue his passion for art and creativity.


A Love That Transcended Time
In one of his last public appearances, Izzat Al-Alaili spoke about his wife on the “Her Excellency” program with Esad Yunus. He was overcome with emotion as he expressed his gratitude for the love and support she had given him throughout his life. ”She has given me so much in my life, and I cannot repay her. I don’t need anyone else.”
Izzat Al-Alaili’s love for his wife continued to inspire him, even in her absence. He found solace in his family, particularly his grandchildren, Mahmud’s daughter Maryam and Happy’s son Adel. Though they had grown up, he remained proud of them and cherished the time they spent together.
