Commemorating the 93rd Anniversary of the “September 18th” Incident
The Hong Kong Anti-Japanese War History Research Association held a series of events to commemorate the 93rd anniversary of the “September 18th” incident, including a special lecture, a concert, and a memorial ceremony.
Memorial Ceremony at Chia Chuk Wan
Yesterday morning, the Research Association organized about 200 descendants of the Dongjiang Column and members of patriotic societies to pay homage to the Anti-Japanese War Martyrs Monument at Chien Chuk Wan in Sai Kung. The participants sang military songs of the People’s Liberation Army and the New Fourth Army to honor the martyrs.
Special Lecture on the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation
In the afternoon, the Research Association, along with other sponsors and supporting organizations, held a special lecture on “The Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation from the perspective of the September 18th Incident” at the Hong Kong Provincial CPPCC Members Association Hall. The lecture aimed to provide a comprehensive and profound understanding of the September 18th Incident and its significance in the country’s history.
Golden Snake Dances to Remember 9.18 Concert
In the evening, the Research Association held the “Golden Snake Dances to Remember 9.18 Concert” at the Shatin Town Hall. Music groups from Hong Kong and the Mainland performed a series of anti-war songs to convey patriotic sentiments and lead the audience to look back on the turbulent years. The concert was attended by prominent guests, including Li Huiqiong, member of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, and Zhang Qiang, director of the Taiwan Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong.
Performances and Speeches
The chorus team of more than 500 people sang traditional anti-Japanese songs, including “Song of the Dongjiang Column” and “Defend the Yellow River”. Li Huiqiong, in her speech, emphasized the importance of passing on the anti-war spirit of the predecessors through music. Zhang Qiang described history as the best textbook and praised the concert for its educational significance. Ma Fengguo also praised the concert for its significance in carrying forward the spirit of the martyrs.
Finale Performance
The finale performance of the concert was a chorus of “Defend the Yellow River” and “Song of the Eight Hundred Heroes” by 500 people. The male and female voices intertwined and sang in harmony, creating a sonorous, powerful, and inspiring feeling. The audience sang along with the rhythm, and the concert ended with warm and lasting applause.
