Tianjin Natural History Museum Launches Two New Exhibitions
Tianjin Daily News (Photo by reporter Liu Yinwen) On the 19th, Tianjin Natural History Museum (Northern Frontier Museum) launched the “Continuing the Splendor and Forging Glory – Tianjin Natural History Museum (Northern Frontier Museum) 110th Anniversary Special Exhibition” and the “Tianjin Natural History Museum (Northern Frontier Museum) 110th Anniversary Donated Specimen Exhibition”.
The “Continuing the Brilliant Chapter and Forging Glory — Special Exhibition on the 110th Anniversary of Tianjin Natural History Museum (Northern Frontier Museum)” comprehensively reviews the glorious journey of the museum since its founding. It is divided into three parts based on time: “Foundation: Northern Frontier Museum Period”, “Deepening: Tianjin Natural History Museum Period” and “Take-off: New Era Period”. It displays rich cultural relics and precious historical photos, leading the audience through a century of time to feel the transformation and growth of Tianjin Natural History Museum in different historical stages.
Recently, eight organizations including the Global Health and Education Foundation, Tianjin Planning and Natural Resources Bureau, Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing Nanhaizi Elk Park Museum, Chongqing Natural History Museum, Shanxi Natural History Museum, Tianyan Museum, and Tianmu Geoscience Museum Space (Guilin) donated precious natural collections to the Tianjin Natural History Museum. The museum selected representative exhibits and launched the “Tianjin Natural History Museum (Beijiang Museum) 110th Anniversary Donated Specimens Exhibition”.

The Global Health and Education Foundation donated 100 head and shoulder specimens of medium and large herbivorous animals of 39 species. These specimens come from 16 countries and regions on five continents, and 7 specimens are the first time for the museum to collect them. Chongqing Natural History Museum donated a skeleton model of Ba’s giant panda, and Beijing Nanhaizi Elk Park Museum donated a pair of elk antlers. Tianjin Planning and Natural Resources Bureau donated 33 bird and reptile specimens, including 3 national first-class protected bird specimens and 15 national second-class protected bird specimens. Some species filled the gaps in the collection. In addition, the bureau also donated 2,506 Tianjin plant specimens.
The Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanxi Natural History Museum, Evolution and Ethics Museum and Tianmu Geoscience Museum (Guilin) donated precious paleontological fossils or skeleton model specimens, providing important scientific data for paleontological research.
