[마이데일리 = 김종국 기자] Bayern Munich are expected to shake up their defense after just one game.
Bayern Munich will play the 2nd round of the 2024-25 Bundesliga against Freiburg at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany on the 1st. Bayern Munich won 3-2 in a fierce battle against Wolfsburg in the 2024-25 Bundesliga 1st round on the 25th, and criticism of the defense continued after the game.
Global sports streaming company DAZN predicted Bayern Munich’s starting lineup for the match against Freiburg on the 31st. The media predicted that Bayern Munich’s Kane, Gnabry, Musiala, Pavlovic, Kimmich, and Neuer will start against Freiburg, following their match against Wolfsburg.
Among the defenders, Upamecano is expected to be the only one to start against Freiburg, following his performance against Wolfsburg. On the other hand, Kim Min-jae is expected to compete with Dier for a starting spot, and Davies, who started against Wolfsburg, and Boyle, who is expected to compete with Guerreiro and Reimer as wingers.
German media FCB Inside reported on the 30th, “Despite Bayern Munich’s shaky defense, the Bayern Munich management is patient with Kim Min-jae and Upamecano,” and “Despite the victory against Wolfsburg, Kim Min-jae and Upamecano were criticized. However, within Bayern Munich, Kim Min-jae and Upamecano are being evaluated calmly.”
The outlet said, “Upamecano is receiving full support from the Bayern Munich management. Upamecano is considered the most complete center-back in Bayern Munich,” and “Kim Min-jae is having a harder time at Bayern Munich than Upamecano. Kim Min-jae is in his second season at Bayern Munich, but he still doesn’t seem to have adapted.”
Kim Min-jae, who reportedly suffered a minor thigh injury in the match against Wolfsburg, has returned to team training ahead of the match against Freiburg. German media outlet Liga Insider predicted on the 31st that “Kim Min-jae has returned to team training and will start against Freiburg.”
After the Wolfsburg match, German media outlet BR24 pointed out that “Bayern Munich’s defense is returning to its old pattern. Bayern Munich won against Wolfsburg, but their defense was another problem. Bayern Munich’s situation, with Kim Min-jae and Upamecano playing as starting center backs, raises questions about their transfer policy.”
On the other hand, Bayern Munich’s director Eberl said on the 31st regarding the rumors about signing Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, “Leverkusen notified us of the deadline for transfers three weeks ago and demanded a specific transfer fee. We sent a letter to Leverkusen thanking them for informing us of the deadline for transfer negotiations and the specific transfer fee they were asking for. Our response was that we could not accept both demands. This is the real reason why we did not sign Jonathan Tah,” and announced the impossibility of signing Jonathan Tah.
