A multidisciplinary expert panel from the Committee of Pediatrics, China Medical Education Association, has developed a new consensus guideline to standardize the diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of recurrent wheezing in infants, and toddlers.
Published in Pediatric Investigation, the guidelines address the clinical challenges associated with managing airway narrowing in children under the age of five. Recurrent wheezing in this age group is described as a heterogeneous clinical presentation that has historically been difficult to manage due to limited diagnostic options.
The new framework is designed to fill a critical gap in pediatric respiratory medicine by providing clinicians with a systematic approach to enhance diagnostic accuracy and improve therapeutic outcomes for pediatric patients facing multifactorial respiratory triggers.
The Cyclic Management Protocol
Central to the new recommendations is the implementation of a cyclic management protocol. This approach moves away from linear treatment and instead utilizes an Evaluation-Diagnosis-Treatment
