VDOT is holding a virtual public information meeting on April 29, 2026, to present plans for widening Route 7 (Leesburg Pike) between Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road) and I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Fairfax County.

The project will widen the roadway to accommodate multimodal improvements, including provisions for future bus rapid transit (BRT). Key components include replacing service roads in select locations with shared-use paths, adding turn lanes from Route 123 to International Drive/Gallows Road, and upgrading traffic signals along the corridor as needed.

Additional improvements involve installing high-visibility crosswalks, ADA-compliant ramps, and Accessible Pedestrian Signals at numerous intersections. The initiative aims to enhance safety, reduce congestion through access management, and improve mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Route 7 currently averages 76,000 vehicles per day within the project limits. The virtual meeting will be held at 7 p.m. On April 29, 2026, with registration available online or via phone at 833-548-0276 (webinar ID: 815-3125-2665). Public comments will be accepted until May 13, 2026.

Major project milestones include a design public hearing in spring 2027, right of way acquisition beginning in winter 2029/30, and construction slated to start in spring 2032.
