Buyun Chaoket Makes History, Advances to ATP Tour Quarterfinals for the First Time
The 250 Hangzhou Open Tennis Tournament continued on the 20th, with Chinese player Buyun Chaoket pulling off a stunning upset against the No. 2 seed, Russian player Khachanov, winning 2:1 and advancing to the ATP Tour quarterfinals for the first time in his career.
Buyunchaoket was behind 1:3 in the first set but managed to drag the match into a tie-break, ultimately winning 7:6 (7). In the second set, Khachanov’s condition improved, and he tied the score at 6:4. However, Buyunchaoket was in full swing in the deciding set, breaking the serve at the start and eventually winning 6:3.
Born in Xinjiang, Buyun Chaoket received tennis training in Zhejiang since he was a child, which is why he affectionately calls Hangzhou his “hometown.” In the post-match interview, he expressed his excitement about competing in his hometown, saying, “Although I have been competing frequently recently and I am physically tired, fortunately I am back to play in my hometown, which makes me feel very comfortable. I hope to show my best side here.”
Buyun Chaoket was thrilled to have defeated a player ranked in the top 30 in the world for the first time. He expressed his gratitude to the fans, saying, “I am grateful to the fans here for their support. This is my motivation to move forward.”
Buyunchaoket will face Kazakhstan’s Kukushkin in the quarter-finals, looking to continue his winning streak and make a deeper run in the tournament.
