GS YUASA OPEN 2024: Sumire Namikata ⁢Advances to Second Round of Singles

Veteran Sumire Namikata‌ defeats 4th seed ⁢and advances to second round of singles

The International Tennis Federation ‌(ITF) women’s tour​ lower-level tournament, GS YUASA OPEN 2024 ITF ‌World Tennis Tour W35 ⁤Kyoto,​ is underway in Japan. The main tournament, held at the Kyoto City Gymnasium, Kataoka Arena Kyoto, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, features⁢ a total prize‍ money of $25,000 and is ⁣played on indoor carpet courts.

On the second day of the ‌main tournament, the remaining ⁤eight first round matches in ‌the women’s singles and four first round matches‍ in the women’s doubles were held. In singles, the ​first seed Tiffany Lemaitre (France), the ⁤fifth seed Cao Chiayi‌ (Taiwan), Jiang Ying (China), Kobayashi Honoka (Hashimoto Sangyo), ⁢Liu Yanni (China), wild‌ card (sponsor’s recommendation) Nishimoto Seira (Top Run), Namikata Junri (Free), and⁢ qualifying‍ winner Negishi Yuzuha (Inuzuka Sports Planning) advanced to the second round.

Notably, the‍ fourth seed Punning Kobapicked (Thailand) lost ‍6-4, 3-6, 4-6 to Namikata, formerly ranked 105th in‌ the world, and was down-seeded in the first match. In⁢ doubles, third seeds ​Nagata Anri/Yamazaki Ikumi (both Shimadzu Corporation), fourth seeds Kinoshita‌ Haruyuki ​(Team Rise)/Saigo Yukina (free agent), Koseki Michika (Hashimoto Sangyo Holdings)/Jang, and Kang Na-hyun ⁤(Korea)/Morimoto Nagisa (SEEKERs⁣ TENNIS TEAM) advanced to the final eight.

The schedule for the next⁢ day includes seven ⁢second round matches‍ of ⁢women’s ⁣singles, starting from ​10:00, and four women’s doubles quarterfinals, starting from 13:00 onwards.
