Upsets and Advancements at Syed Modi International Badminton Tournament

Mixed doubles players Loo Bing Kun and Ho Lo Ee caused a major upset at the Syed Modi International. They defeated top seeds B. Sumeeth Reddy and Sikki Reddy from India to reach the quarter-finals. The match lasted 50 minutes, with Bing Kun and Lo Ee winning 19-21, 21-16, 21-13. This victory marks their first appearance in the quarter-finals of a World Tour Super 300 event.

Bing Kun and Lo Ee have only been competing together since early this year. Next, they will face the fifth-seeded Indian duo of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto for a spot in the semi-finals.

In other matches, independent player Wong Tien Ci also had success. He reached the quarter-finals in both men’s and mixed doubles. In mixed doubles, Tien Ci teamed up with Lim Chiew Sien to defeat India’s Shaik Gouse and K. Maneesha, winning 21-16, 21-18. They will compete against Chinese qualifiers Liao Pinyi and Huang Kexin next.

In men’s doubles, Tien Ci partnered with Lim Tze Jian to win a hard-fought match against Thailand’s Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn and Worrapol Thongsanga. The final score was 21-19, 11-21, 22-20. Tien Ci and Tze Jian will next play against India’s Roy Pruthvi and K. Sai Pratheek.

The world junior champions Aaron Tai and Kang Kai Xing also advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Taiwan’s Po Li-wei and Lu Chen with scores of 21-16, 13-21, 21-14. They will face India’s Ishaan Bhatnagar and Sankar Prasad in their next match.

In women’s doubles, Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing won against India’s Gayatri Rawat and Mansa Rawat, scoring 21-7, 21-14. They are set to meet the second seeds Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand in the next round.

However, Justin Hoh’s journey ended in men’s singles. He lost to India’s Ayush Shetty with a score of 12-21, 19-21.
