The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued a recall on April 9, 2026, for Pettitt’s Cook at Home Basil & Pesto Chicken Fillets after the detection of salmonella contamination.
The recall affects the 380g ready-to-cook fillets, which retail at a price of €5.49. The specific batch implicated in the safety alert carries a use-by date of March 30, 2026.
Because the use-by date for the affected product has already passed, the FSAI has specifically warned consumers to inspect their home freezers, as the fillets are suitable for freezing.
The above batch of Pettitt’s Cook at Home Basil and Pesto Chicken Fillets is being recalled due to the presence of Salmonella. Although the implicated batch is past its use by date, the product is suitable for home freezing. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batch.

The FSAI stated that recall notices will be displayed at the point of sale to alert shoppers. Consumers are warned against consuming the affected batch due to the bacterial contamination.
Health Risks and Symptoms
Salmonella infection typically manifests symptoms within 12 to 36 hours, although the onset can range from 6 to 72 hours. The most frequent symptom is diarrhoea, which may occasionally contain blood.
Additional symptoms associated with the infection include:
- Fever
- Headache
- Stomach cramps
The condition generally persists for four to seven days. In some instances, diarrhoea can become severe enough to require hospitalisation. The FSAI noted that infants, elderly individuals, and people with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of experiencing severe illness.
Additional Regulatory Actions
The recall of the chicken fillets was part of a broader set of safety alerts issued by the FSAI on April 9, 2026. The authority also issued a recall warning for specific batches of Tesco Finest Summer Edition Chocolate Affogato Dessert.
The dessert recall is unrelated to the salmonella concern and was instead triggered by the potential for plastic contamination.
