Hellboy creator Mike Mignola is returning to the world of supernatural mysteries with a new original graphic novel, Uri Tupka and the Devils, slated for release on November 17, 2026. Published by Dark Horse Books, the 104-page OGN follows a former theologian’s quest to rediscover his faith amidst a landscape of gods, monsters and the primordial darkness, continuing the expansion of Mignola’s “Lands Unknown” universe.
The announcement comes just months after Mignola released Uri Tupka and the Gods, another graphic novel expanding the Lands Unknown universe, which was released in February 2026. Uri Tupka and the Devils will feature artwork by Mignola, colors by Dave Stewart, and lettering by Clem Robins, the same team behind many of Mignola’s acclaimed works.
A Search for Faith in a Haunting New World
Uri Tupka isn’t a typical Mignola protagonist. Unlike the hellspawned Hellboy, Tupka is described as a religious man who has lost his faith and is actively seeking to regain it. According to Mignola, the story finds Tupka after he has already encountered gods, but remains plagued by unanswered questions.
“Uri has found the gods but he still has questions and so he’s gone to look for the answers—In a nightmare castle full of devils!”

The narrative promises a dark and challenging journey for Tupka, filled with physical and existential trials. Mignola hints at transformations, internal struggles, and brutal encounters for the character.
Expanding the Lands Unknown Universe
Uri Tupka and the Devils builds upon the foundation laid by Bowling with Corpses and Other Strange Tales from Lands Unknown, a critically acclaimed anthology released earlier in 2025. That initial foray into the Lands Unknown universe, co-created with Ben Stenbeck, quickly sold out and is heading into its fourth printing, demonstrating strong fan interest in Mignola’s new world.
The Lands Unknown universe offers a different flavor than Mignola’s signature Hellboy series, leaning into folklore-inspired fantasy. Uri Tupka and the Gods, released in February 2026, follows the titular character on a quest to prove that ancient gods shaped the world, encountering mythical creatures and facing unspeakable horrors along the way.
A Legacy of Horror, Humor, and Distinctive Art
Mike Mignola’s career spans decades, beginning with work at Marvel Comics in 1982. He gained widespread recognition in the late 1980s for developing his unique graphic style, showcased in projects like Cosmic Odyssey and Batman: Gotham by Gaslight. However, he is best known for creating Hellboy in 1994 through Dark Horse Comics, which spawned numerous spin-off titles including B.P.R.D., Lobster Johnson, and Abe Sapien, as well as prose books and animated films.
Mignola expressed his enjoyment of working on the new project, stating, This is some of the most fun I’ve ever had drawing comics.
The upcoming release of Uri Tupka and the Devils signals a continued commitment to exploring new narratives and expanding his creative vision within the realm of supernatural storytelling.
Uri Tupka and the Devils will be available for purchase in comic shops and online beginning November 17, 2026, with a cover price of $24.99.
