Equipment donations and leadership remarks
A primary milestone of the 2026 edition involved distributing tennis rackets to some of the participating organizations, alongside securing a tennis net for Centro Juvenil Molino de Galgo in the Unión neighborhood.
Diego Pérez, director of the Uruguay Open, emphasized that the program’s focus centers on enjoyment rather than elite athletic production.
Tennis for Everyone is a program worth continuing. We never know if great tennis players will emerge from here, but that’s not the goal; the aim is for people to come and have fun and enjoy themselves.
Diego Pérez
Mauricio Fuentes, vice president of the INAU, pointed to sports as a vital mechanism for personal development and identity formation.
Sport is a wonderful way to build identity, find friends, and experience the world. It makes us so happy to see so many children and teenagers having fun, learning new skills, and challenging themselves to see how far they can go. We hope they learn to love sport and that this love continues for generations to come.
Mauricio Fuentes
Public infrastructure support and milestone
Daniel Leite, national manager of the Secretaría Nacional del Deporte, summarized his perspective on the initiative using three core concepts: gratitude, celebration, and backing.
The fact that public infrastructure can be put in place to make these kinds of activities happen is something to celebrate, and we must support and thank those who carry out these kinds of actions.
Daniel Leite
The community outreach unfolds during a year for the Uruguay Open tournament, which will celebrate its 25 editions.
