U.S. Military Action and Captures

The United States military captured two individuals following an attack on‌ a vessel suspected⁢ of drug trafficking in the ⁢Caribbean Sea. During a press⁣ conference while hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr zelensky at the White House on October 17, 2025, Trump⁤ stated, “We attacked a submarine. It was a drug-carrying submarine, built specifically to transport massive quantities of drugs.”

Trump also claimed that Venezuelan ⁤President Nicolás Maduro‍ offered concessions in an⁣ attempt to de-escalate ⁢tensions between the United States and Venezuela, stating Maduro ⁢offered ‍him “everything.”

Rising Death⁢ Toll in Caribbean Operations

Thursday’s attack brings the total number of confirmed fatalities resulting from U.S.military actions against vessels in the Caribbean to at least ⁣28. ‍ ⁤This is believed to be the sixth such⁤ incident in waters off Venezuela as early September.

The fate‍ of the captured⁢ individuals remains unclear;‌ sources indicate thay are currently‌ being held‍ aboard a U.S. Navy⁤ vessel. The U.S. government has not yet released details regarding their status or potential legal ‍proceedings.

Trump has characterized the U.S. involvement as an “armed conflict” against drug trafficking organizations and has publicly accused Nicolás Maduro ‍of ‌leading the “Suns cartel.”
