The U.S. government is considering importing eggs from Türkiye and South Korea, and is open to exploring opportunities with other nations, in an effort to alleviate the current high cost of eggs in the country.

Agriculture Minister Brooke rollins stated, We talked about hundreds of millions of eggs for the short term, according to a report by the BBC.

This move follows an declaration regarding the government’s plan to address the increased outbreak of avian flu, which has led U.S. farmers to cull tens of millions of chickens.

Egg prices have risen by more than 65% in the past year and are projected to increase by a similar percentage in 2025. This comes amid broader efforts to reduce prices.

Rollins mentioned that her department is in discussions with other countries to secure additional supplies, but did not specify which countries.

When our chicken population is re-filled and we have the full egg-laying industry again, hopefully in a few months, we then turn back to our internal egg layer and move the eggs to the shelf, she said.
