US Elite Forces Train to Take Down China: Bin Laden Tactics Repurposed for Taiwan Invasion Scenario
US Navy’s Elite Special Forces Unit ‘SEAL Team Six’ Trains to Support Taiwan Against Chinese Invasion
The US Navy’s elite special forces unit ‘SEAL Team Six’, which gained worldwide fame by killing Osama bin Laden, the main perpetrator of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, is training to support Taiwan if China invades, according to a report by the British Financial Times (FT) on September 12.
The unit, also known as the Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU), has been conducting training for over a year, with its headquarters located in Virginia, near Washington, the capital of the United States. The FT also reported that the unit has been helping to train Taiwan’s military special forces in recent years.
US Concerns Over Chinese Invasion of Taiwan
Analysts believe that the fact that the US has been training to defend Taiwan by mobilizing its elite special forces shows how worried the US is about the possibility of China invading Taiwan. The US military preparations have been significantly strengthened after Phil Davidson, head of the US Indo-Pacific Command at the time, warned in 2021 that “China could attack Taiwan within six years.”
Western intelligence agencies are raising the possibility that Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is trying to stay in power for life, will attack Taiwan around 2027, the end of his current third term and the centenary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army. President Xi has expressed his will for the unification of Taiwan several times in recent public appearances.
US Defense Strategy for Taiwan
The US military’s first defense strategy in the event of China’s attack on Taiwan is the so-called ‘unmanned hell island’, which means building a line of defense with various ‘unmanned forces’ such as unmanned surface ships and drones. This strategy was reported by the Washington Post (WP) in June this year, through an interview with Samuel Paparo, commander of the US Navy’s Indo-Pacific Command.
Commander Paparo also said in March last year that “if there is an emergency in Taiwan, the United States will provide prompt support.” He emphasized that the decision to implement military action is up to the President and the US Congress, but the US military’s mission is to “prepare the posture of readiness.”
