Oscar Piastri currently leads Max Verstappen by 55 points in the championship standings,with Lando Norris trailing Piastri by an additional 22 points,as of the grand prix’s start .
Verstappen, who dominated all qualifying sessions, described the challenge of achieving a clean lap, stating, “It was good, every segment the car was very strong, just trying to put the lap together around here is very tricky.” He added that his first run in Q3 was strong and he didn’t need to complete a final run despite a “messy” out lap.
Norris Acknowledges Qualifying Struggles
Lando Norris conceded that qualifying was more difficult than expected, noting a contrast to his cozy pace on the previous day. He stated, “It was a bit more of a struggle today for whatever reason, yesterday was quite comfortable.”
Norris attributed his difficulties to potential improvements by competitors or changes in wind conditions, acknowledging that challenging Verstappen for pole position was unrealistic. He expressed anticipation for a competitive race with Verstappen, referencing their past battles.
Leclerc’s Unexpected Lap and Car Concerns
Charles Leclerc experienced a spin in the final corner during his initial qualifying run but was surprised by the strength of his final lap.He noted the weekend had been difficult overall.
Leclerc highlighted the need for further understanding of the car’s performance, stating, “There are still things we need to understand from this car, there is too much of a swing without changing much the car.”
