What Happened?

On September 18,a federal judge in Washington,DC issued a preliminary injunction blocking the removal of unaccompanied guatemalan children. At least 76 of these children were targeted by the Trump administration in a summarily expulsion attempt in the middle of the night last month.

During the night of August 30-31, children residing in shelters or foster care operated by the United States Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) – the agency responsible for the care of unaccompanied children – were awakened from their sleep. They were then placed on planes destined for Guatemala, following an agency order.Lawyers quickly challenged these expulsions, and a federal judge in Washington, DC temporarily halted the removals just before 4:30 a.m. on August 31.
